Did you just purchase a new number with NumberBarn and you'd like to port that number TO your cell phone provider while porting your current mobile number to NumberBarn? Sounds complicated, right? It's actually simpler than you might think. And of course, we want to make sure that service isn't interrupted on your mobile phone.
Suggested process for swapping your NumberBarn and mobile numbers
We suggest you first check-in with your wireless carrier to understand the timing for porting the number away.
NumberBarn allows you to have one number porting in while another number is porting out without any interference to your service. Wireless carriers, on the other hand, typically only allow you to have one number assigned to a device at a time.
Here are a couple of questions to ask your mobile phone carrier:
- Will porting out my current cell phone number affect my plan and will it stay open so I can port in another number?
- Can I have more than one number tied to my account and device?
- If yes, you can port out your NumberBarn number, and then port in your current cell phone number to NumberBarn once the first completes.
- If not, then you will want to port your mobile number to NumberBarn first and then port your NumberBarn number to the mobile carrier to ensure that you don't lose your old number in the process.
If you do port in your cell phone number first, we suggest placing your number on a call forwarding plan to your new number while your other number ports and activates on your cell phone. This would allow you to still receive and make calls virtually.

Once the numbers have completed porting you can update your call forwarding so that your calls from your old mobile number forward to your new mobile number.
