How to receive email notifications for new voicemails and text messages

In this article:

To receive voicemail notifications and text message notifications to your email address:

• Log in to your account
• Select Numbers from the navigation bar
• Select your number from the list
• Select the Messages tab
• Select the button to toggle it on
• Enable Email my messages
  
• From here you will see two different options:
  • Voicemail to email forwards your voicemail messages to the email address(es) you specify below.
    
  • Forward text to email forwards a copy of your text messages to the email address(es) you specify below.
    
• Enter your email address(es) into the text fields provided. You can enter one email per text field for a maximum of two email addresses that can receive text and voicemail notifications.
  
• Save your changes

Note: be sure to click "Activate SMS" if you want both text messages and voicemails to be forwarded to your email. If your SMS is not activated, only voicemails will be sent to your email. Our voicemail feature is only available on the Forward and Unlimited plans.

Alternative way to enable special mobile voicemail notifications, depending on your phone

If you aren't using the NumberBarn or NumberGarage mobile applications, or you are using the NumberBarn Classic app, here's another creative way to receive notifications for new voicemail messages. (Note: This method was originally published because our mobile application didn't offer push notifications, but now it does!)

iPhone Users
Add "voicemail@numberbarn.com" as a VIP in Apple Mail. Instructions on this process can be found here. That way, when you receive an SMS email notification, a custom alert will display on your phone to let you know a message is waiting. Sounds can also be added.

Android Users
Set up VIP notifications in the Email app to let you know when "voicemail@numberbarn.com" has delivered a fresh SMS your way. Instructions on this process can be found here.

Gmail Users
Create a VIP Label in Gmail to filter messages from "voicemail@numberbarn.com" to your Inbox. You can also customize a sound to let you know a message is waiting. Detailed instructions on this process can be found here.

Why is Gmail labeling voicemail notifications as spam?

Are your voicemail notifications going to your Spam folder in Gmail? If that's the case, it may help to add "voicemail@numberbarn.com" to your Google contacts. Here steps to do so:

1. Go to https://contacts.google.com 
2. Click Create a contact
3. Be sure to fill the first and last name fields and set the email address to be "voicemail@numberbarn.com." If you want to enter a birthday for NumberBarn, feel free to use September 1, 2014 if you'd like.
4. Click Save
