💡 What is it?
An API (Application Programming Interface) lets two different applications communicate and share data with each other. You send a request in a defined format, and it sends back a response.
Think of it as a messenger between two systems. In NumberBarn's case, it's the messenger between your application and our inventory of phone numbers, and as a NumberBarn customer, you have access to it.
The NumberBarn API primarily serves two purposes:
- Reselling numbers: sell our inventory of phone numbers through your own site or app and earn a commission on every sale.
- Inventory management for brokers: manage listings, pricing, and other brokerage tasks programmatically.
Beyond those core purposes, the API also supports:
- Number search & geo-telecom data: look up area codes (NPAs), rate centers, and postal codes, and match numbers to specific locations.
- Number intelligence: look up carrier, carrier type, and location details for a given phone number.
- Number features: manage Caller ID Name, SMS activation, voicemails, and greetings for numbers on your account.
- Account tools: manage contacts, set up saved searches (to get notified when a number you want becomes available), and pull call logs.
⚙️ How it works
Getting access
| 1 | Generate your API token. Go to Account > Account Settings > API Token > | |
| 2 | Add a token name to create a token for your account. |
➡️ Include your token in the Authorization header of each API call (Bearer auth). This is how NumberBarn's servers identify your account. |
Making a request
- Call the endpoint for whatever you need, searching available numbers, checking a listing, and more.
- NumberBarn's API returns a JSON response with the data you requested.
- For endpoint details, parameters, and examples, visit our API documentation.
📌 Things to Know
- Commission rates vary by program and integration type, contact our team for details on what applies to your integration.
- Toll-free numbers cannot be resold, but they can be offered for license.
- Keep your API token secure. It authenticates all requests made on your account.
