Port-In Authorization Required
Hi everyone,
I’m new to NumberBarn and wanted to share some important info for those trying to port their number. If your port-in request shows “Authorization Required,” this means your current carrier is holding your number. You’ll need to contact your carrier’s customer service and request a port-out PIN—not a number release or account closure.
If you’re on a family plan, you’ll need to set up your own account before getting a transfer PIN.
This process usually requires providing personal details like your social security number, credit card, and ID—which I agree is a lot, but it’s necessary to get your number under your own name.
Many carriers will only release your number so you can create a new account, but what we actually want is to move our number to NumberBarn for safe keeping.
To do this: • Make sure your phone number and current address match the account owner’s info • Once your number is in your name, request a transfer PIN • Be prepared to pay any fees your carrier may charge Some carriers may refund the fees, but others won’t—so just be aware.
Hopefully, this helps anyone struggling with the “Authorization Required” message.
Wishing you all the best, and remember—be Kind, it’s free!
