Porting out to Total Wireless
Hi, I am trying to purchase a phone and port to total wireless. Step 3 requires me to enter the number to ensure it is eligible (it is), but then I need to enter a verification code that was texted to the number. How do I get this code?

Hi Nick Blum, I believe that you may have already found a resolution for this issue but I can confirm that all of our plans include inbound text messaging. So you would just need to activate inbound texting on your account and then have Total Wireless send that code again. Keep us posted if we can assist further with that port out.

Do all plans include inbound text messaging including the port away plan that doesn't have an additional cost?

Hi Abdiel Ayala, thank you for your question. The Port Away plan does not include any texting. And furthermore, all other plans require a $1/month fee for inbound and outbound texting.

I followed the instructions to activate texting. I tested the functionality from another phone and it works. However, when I entered the phone in Total wireless I do not get the code at all. Is my number not eligible? I read numberbarn phone numbers can be ported out to Total Wireless. Do I need to get a different number and try again?

Hi Fede B, I understand that you need for Total Wireless to send you an authorization code. The issue here is that our current texting carrier doesn't support short code texting. I'm working to switch you to our other carrier and then you should be able to receive that text. I'll be in touch shortly.

Also Fede B, make sure that Total Wireless is submitting this as a "wireline to wireless" port. The fact that they are texting you seems to indicate they might have submitted a "wireless to wireless" port and it's important to remember that all NumberBarn numbers are classified as wireline.

Hello Jeremy Watkin , I am having the same issue as Fede B , can you help me out ?

Hi Mn1055111, a member of our team will respond to your ticket shortly. It looks like Total Wireless is submitting your port as "wireless to wireless." Your number is wireline so they must submit the port as "wireline to wireless." I believe this is how we finally got the port for Fede B approved but I've emailed them to confirm.

Hi Jeremy, I'm having trouble receiving the verification code from Total Wireless that's needed to port my number. I came across a previous message from you where you mentioned:
"I understand that you need for Total Wireless to send you an authorization code. The issue here is that our current texting carrier doesn't support short code texting. I'm working to switch you to our other carrier and then you should be able to receive that text. I'll be in touch shortly."
Would it be possible to apply that same carrier switch to my number so I can receive the code?

I wanted to let you know that I used a different phone number to obtain the authorization code, since we tried several methods to get it through NumberBarn without success. Once the phone arrived, I activated it using the NumberBarn port-out number, and everything worked perfectly.

Hi Mn1055111, I just worked with Fede B on this with Total Wireless. Even after we activated short code texting, he still didn't receive a text on his NumberBarn number. He ended up using a different number to sign up and get the deal and then ported his NumberBarn number in afterwards. Let me know if that helps.

Thank you Fede B!

Thanks Jeremy and Fede B! I used a different number to get the activation code, and it worked—I got the deal and placed the order.
Fede B, after receiving your device, which activation option did you choose in the Total wireless site?
"New phone - Purchased through Total Wireless"

I also want to activate a new total wireless phone by porting out a number from NumberBarn.
User Fede B wrote "I activated it using the NumberBarn port-out number, and everything worked perfectly."
Is the NumberBarn port-out number the same as the port-away plan that can be selected at checkout?
Thank you.

Hi Jeremy Watkin.
I understand that it may not be possible to use a NumberBarn number to receive a verification code from total wireless. But can you confirm that it's possible to enable inbound texting on the port-away plan for $1/month?Thank you.

Hi Orion, I do not recommend activating NumberBarn texting if you are trying to receive the text message from Total Wireless. As Fede B said, it's better to just use a different phone number to activate your Total Wireless service and then port your NumberBarn number after that. I hope this is helpful.

Steps to Claim a Free Phone and Plan Deal from Total Wireless:
-
Get a verification code using a phone number that is not currently with Total Wireless or numberbarn.
-
Activate your new device on the Total Wireless website. During activation, choose the option “I want to keep my number” — this refers to the number you’re porting in from your previous carrier (such as your NumberBarn port-out number).
