Perhaps you’ve seen the recent news where Microsoft is shutting down Skype in May of 2025 and giving customers the option to migrate to Microsoft Teams or to another video conferencing solution. And chances are, you don’t even use Skype for video conferencing but you happen to love your Skype number and you don’t want to lose it. NumberBarn can help.
In this article, we’ll go through the steps of porting your Skype number to NumberBarn.
How to initiate a port request to NumberBarn
Your first step in porting a number to NumberBarn is to initiate a port request on our website.
Step-by-Step Guide: How to port in a number
This article will help you with the initial request. When it comes to getting the port request authorized and approved, there are a few differences that we’ll cover next.
What’s my account number and PIN
Based on our experience, Skype doesn’t provide customers with an account number and PIN to port their number. And furthermore, we’ve heard that it’s difficult to contact support for Skype.
When you are initiating your port request, enter the following information:
- Account number - enter your telephone number with no dashes, spaces or special characters. For example, if your number is (858)555-1212 enter “8585551212.”
- PIN - enter 0000
It’s likely that Skype doesn’t have an address on file for you so just enter your current address when submitting the port.
How to authorize your port request
Once your port has been submitted you will need to authorize it. You can review our methods for authorizing a port here:
Options for authorizing a port-in request: Call, Text or LOA/COB
If you do not have a Copy of Bill (COB)and are unable to receive calls or text messages for this number, your best option to authorize the port and prove that you own the number is to take a screenshot of your Skype account showing your name and your Skype telephone number. You can upload this to authorize your port.
Overcoming common errors
In some cases, we’ve found that the carrier used by Skype requires that we look up a CSR or Customer Service Record for your number because the name and address associated with the telephone number is different. Have no fear! Contact our customer support team (if you haven’t already heard from us) and we will do our best to ensure that your port is a success.
