Two-Step Authentication (2SA) Overview 📖

    💡 What is it?

    Two-Step Authentication, or 2SA, adds a second verification step to signing in to a NumberBarn account, beyond an email address and password. After entering login credentials, a customer must also verify their identity using a method configured on the account.

    2SA protects an account even if the login password is compromised, since a second, separate method is also required to sign in.

    ⚙️ How it works 

    Verification Methods

    NumberBarn supports three 2SA methods

    Email

     

    SMS

     

    Authenticator App

    A verification code sent to a secondary email address, different from the login email

     

    A verification code sent by text message to a US or Canadian phone number not already listed on the account

     

    A time-based code generated by an app such as Google Authenticator, 1Password, or NordPass

    • Add, edit, or delete any of these methods at any time. 

    Turning Two-Step Authentication On or Off

    A toggle in the Two-Step Authentication section of Account Settings turns 2SA on or off. Turning it off does not delete any configured methods, they remain saved on the account, but are not used to verify sign in until 2SA is turned back on.

    The Login and Security card in Account Settings shows a 2FA On or 2FA Off badge that reflects the current toggle state, visible without expanding the section.

    📌 Things to Know 

    Multiple Methods Recommended

    • Adding two or three methods provides a backup if access to one method is lost, such as a phone that is no longer available or an email account that can no longer be reached.

    Losing Access to All Methods

    • If access is lost to every configured method, contact support. Once identity is verified, support disables 2SA on the account so sign-in is possible again and new methods can be added.

    Works Alongside a Strong Password

    • Two-Step Authentication is a second layer, not a replacement for a strong, unique password.
