💡 What is it?
A Port In moves a phone number you already own from your current carrier to NumberBarn. Once the transfer completes, NumberBarn becomes the carrier for the number and runs all of its service.
Place the order, then authorize the transfer from your account with your current carrier's account details. Do both at once, or authorize later. Nothing is sent to your current carrier until you authorize.
⚙️ How it works
Port In Stages
- Order: check the number, choose a plan, and check out. Nothing is charged.
- Authorize: enter your carrier account details, verify you own the number, choose when to transfer, and submit.
- Carrier review: your current carrier approves the request and sets a transfer date, or rejects it with a reason.
- Transfer: on the transfer date, the number moves to NumberBarn and you receive a final email.

Port In Statuses
Find the status on the Numbers page, in the label above the number.
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED | The order is placed and waiting for you to authorize it. | Finish authorizing the request. |
| PROCESSING | The request is with your current carrier for approval. | Watch your email for updates. |
| APPROVED | Your carrier approved the request and set the transfer date. | Keep your current service active until the transfer date. |
| ATTENTION REQUIRED | Your carrier rejected the request for a specific reason. | Click the number to see the reason and fix it. |

📌 Things to Know
Cost
Nothing is charged at checkout. The $5 Port In fee and your plan are billed when the transfer completes. ▶️ See Porting Cost 📖
Timeframes
Most requests take 3 to 7 business days after you submit. A rejection restarts the timeline. ▶️ See Port In Timeframes 📖
Choosing a Transfer Date
Transfer as soon as possible, or choose a business day 7 to 21 days out. The date is a request. Your carrier usually completes the transfer within about one business day of it.
Keep Your Current Service Active
Do not cancel your current service before the transfer completes. Your old service generally stops on the day the transfer completes. Check with your current carrier about what happens to the rest of your account.
Cancelling a Port In
Cancel before you submit, or while the request shows ATTENTION REQUIRED. Cancel isn't available while the request is processing. ▶️ See Cancel a Port In Request ⚙️
Transfer Date Has Passed
Most transfers complete on the transfer date by end of day Pacific time. If the date has passed and the number hasn't transferred, contact support at support@numberbarn.com.
Canadian Numbers
Select your current provider when you enter carrier details. After you submit, your current carrier texts the number to confirm the transfer. Reply within 90 minutes, or the request is cancelled and must be resubmitted.
Toll Free Numbers
Toll free numbers transfer as soon as possible and can't be scheduled for a specific date.
Porting Multiple Numbers
Order several numbers at once, then authorize each one on its own. ▶️ See Port In Multiple Numbers ⚙️
