The majority of carriers will accept phone number transfers from NumberBarn or NumberGarage. Our numbers are classified as wireline and there's nothing we can do to change this regulatory (FCC) classification. Number classification is based on the type of carrier that currently is providing service to the phone number. If the carrier is wireless, then the number is classified as wireless and the same for a wireline/landline carrier.
This means that some service providers, most notably Cricket Wireless, Google Voice and Hello Mobile, refuse to port any number other than a number already classified as wireless. This is a policy limitation of the provider you’re porting to. We do not hold or otherwise prevent you from taking your number elsewhere.
Porting to these carriers is still possible, but it does require a workaround and modest expense. In short, the workaround is to temporarily port your number to a wireless carrier that will accept it, then port from there to your preferred provider.

What about carriers in Canada?
Another consideration when porting your number away is whether or not the gaining carrier that you are porting to supports the rate center for your number. This applies to numbers both in the United States and Canada. It's best to check in with the carrier you want to port to and ensure that they can both support your number's rate center and numbers classified as wireline. Read more about rate centers here.
