This article applies equally to NumberBarn and NumberGarage. Our numbers are classified as “wireline“. There is nothing NumberBarn can do to change this regulatory (FCC) classification.
Many businesses, banks, other financial institutions and social media platforms require verification of accounts through a user's “wireless” number. They may not support sending notifications to a “wireline” number. You’ll want to check with that organization about their messaging to make sure that a number with NumberBarn can work for you.
We cannot guarantee that a text message authorization will arrive through your NumberBarn number.
If you plan to set up your number with NumberBarn to use with a notification service, check with that company first to verify they can send to landline/wireline numbers.
Here is a short list of companies we have tested on our end that can or cannot send SMS to a NumberBarn number.

Can I receive 2FA text messages from shortcode numbers?
In general, you will find that some of the companies above send their text messages from shortcode numbers. This should work as long as the company is alright with sending text messages to a wireline telephone number. If you find that you do or don't receive messages from a particular company to your NumberBarn or NumberGarage number, please let us know. We're always looking to keep this documentation as up-to-date as possible.
What other options do I have if text messages cannot be sent to my NumberBarn number?
You have a couple of additional options to explore.
- If you have a separate mobile/wireless number, try using that instead of your NumberBarn number.
- Some institutions will also give you the option to send login codes via email instead of SMS. Try that.
If you run into a situation where you are not receiving codes and believe that you should, Contact Customer Support. Perhaps you have been able to receive the text messages in the past and that suddenly stopped. We may be able to work with our carrier(s) to update the provisioning on your number to get these text messages to work again.
