💡 What is it
Call forwarding is the act of transparently forwarding a call from one phone number to another active phone number. Forward your calls to any U.S. or Canadian number. Receive and manage incoming calls on one device from multiple phone numbers.
Forward calls to numbers outside the US and Canada. ▶️ See International Call Forwarding Overview 📖
⚙️ How it works
Settings
From your NumberBarn account, choose how calls to a specific phone number route using the following options: Forward, Menu, Voicemail:
| Description | Learn More | ||
| Forward | Transparently forward calls to any US or Candian active phone number (like a cell phone or landline number) | Configure Call Forwarding 🛠️ | |
| Menu | Set up to 10 call-handing actions that correspond to the keys on the phone keypad (0-9) and greet callers with custom voice prompts | Menu Overview 📖 | |
| Voicemail | Create a customer or use default voicemail message. Send to a user's voicemail. | Voicemail Overview 📖 |
Call Handling
NumberBarn allows 2 concurrent incoming callers at one time.
Any additional calls after that are sent directly to voicemail if voicemail is enabled on the account. If voicemail is not enabled, callers hear a busy signal, and the calls show up with zero minutes in the call log.
Some other companies refer to these as "lines" or "call paths." Regardless, they all refer to the same thing. If you require more concurrent calls than this, contact customer support so we can determine if we can support your specific use case.
📌 Things to Know
Call Routing
- Forwarding calls can only be sent to one phone number at a time.
- If using a Menu, the caller selects an option, and then calls route based on those settings to one other phone number.

High Volume Call Routing
Certain high-volume calling events, such as radio contests or mass inbound call campaigns, require specialized telecom infrastructure called a Choke Trunk or Choke Exchange. NumberBarn does not support this functionality.
- Choke trunks are designed to handle large bursts of simultaneous inbound calls
- NumberBarn services are not intended for contest-style or high-congestion call events
- Specialized providers, such as ClearlyIP, may offer choke trunk support depending on your needs
Caller ID Privacy
Calls made through NumberBarn use transparent call forwarding. As a result, the forwarding phone number used to complete the call is never displayed to the person receiving the call.
Because outbound calls are placed through the NumberBarn service, dialing *67 is not supported and will not block your caller ID when making calls through NumberBarn.
Additional privacy considerations:
- Your forwarding phone number is never shown to the person you call.
- Calls display your NumberBarn phone number instead of your forwarding number.
- NumberBarn does not submit customer information to caller ID or reverse lookup databases.
- Unless Caller ID Name (CNAM) has been configured, most calls will display only the NumberBarn phone number and its associated rate center.
