    Port away limitations are restrictions that may affect whether a phone number can be transferred to another carrier or used with a specific type of service.

    These limitations are typically based on:

    • The Number’s Rate Center
    • The Type Of Service Being Used
    • Carrier Support Policies
    • Whether The Number Is Active
    • Licensing Restrictions

    Understanding these limitations before purchasing or porting a number can help avoid:

    • Failed Port Requests
    • Unsupported Number Issues
    • Service Delays

    ⚙️ How it works 

    Toll-Free Numbers

    		  

    Landline Service

    Wireless carriers do not support toll-free numbers.

    Toll-free numbers are typically supported by:

    • Business Phone Providers
    • Landline Carriers
    • VoIP Providers

    Examples of providers that may support toll-free numbers include:

    • AT&T Business
    • RingCentral
    • Spectrum Business
    • Verizon Business
    • Vonage
    		  

    Traditional landline providers are geographically restricted.

    Landline numbers must belong to a supported local rate center near the physical service address. 

    Because of this:

    • Not every number will work at every address
    • Even numbers within the same area code may not be supported
    • Moving outside of a local rate center may prevent landline portability
         

    No Port Away Tab

    		  

    Portablity 

    License

    • Phone number is being licensed 
    • Licensed numbers cannot be ported away due to licensing restrictions.
    • If the number is licensed, the Port Out tab will not appear in your account.

    New Number

    • Phone number is still processing activation after a purchase
    • Port away information will not appear until activation is complete.
    • You will receive an email once the number becomes active.
    		  

    Rate Center

    • A carrier must support the rate center of a specific phone number to port the number to their service.

    Wireless Services

    • Wireless carriers cannot support toll-free numbers

    📌 Things to Know 

    Check Portability

    • Before purchasing a number for landline use, contact the receiving carrier to confirm the number is supported at the intended service address.

    Check NumberBarn Service

    • Make sure your number is currently active and that you own the number, meaning you are not licensing the number.
